Tonight’s Republican debate was a major meltdown of gentlemanly decorum the likes we haven’t seen in a long, long time. At times, it seemed that it would devolve to fisticuffs. As hard as Rubio and Cruz tried, they just didn’t manage to pull Trump down even with the squeals of approval from the audience.
They only appeared to be two very desperate men trying to keep their heads above water. It was actually quite embarrassing to watch. Whatever message the Republican presidential candidates were trying to deliver was overshadowed by the juvenile and scripted bravado of Rubio and Cruz. Only John Kasich appeared presidential. Carson, of course, was as forgettable as always and Trump was just Trump.
Rubio came out of the gate tiptoeing and gently poking Trump with sheepish attacks about hiring illegals, particularly Polish ones. Rubio mentioned Polish illegals several times (he was repeating himself again). His staff must have been working overtime looking for that one. I don’t think Rubio saved that for the last debate because he thought it would be a knockout punch. If anyone landed a punch it was Trump who coolly informed both junior senators who the real job creator on the stage was.
The rest of this Rubio-Cruz-pigpile-on-Trump-fest was the same old shit we’ve heard the last nine debates and devoid of any serious substance and nothing worth mentioning. It was, after all, just another typical Republican primary debate…Obama bad…Hillary bad…Repeal and Replace. Wash, rinse and repeat.
