It should not have surprised anyone that Trump would eventually attack Marco Rubio with claims that Rubio is possibly ineligible to be President, presumably because both of his parents became naturalized citizens in 1975, four years after Rubio’s birth, in Maimi. Also not surprising, is that Rubio disagrees with the common cry among conservatives that the natural born clause in the 14 amendment needs to be “looked at” or outright repealed.

Of course, Trump’s claims about Rubio are ridiculous. However, there is a satisfying sense of schadenfreude watching this unfold. There are undoubtedly a large number of Trump supporters who consider both Cruz and Rubio to be anchor babies. To the drooling right-wing, Rubio might have just as well have sailed to the US from Havana on a rowboat filled with rapists and other criminals. We know Cruz took a more circuitous route through Canada.

For nearly eight years, we had to listen to conservatives chortling about President Obama’s birth certificate, his college transcripts, his schooling in a Muslim country, his Muslim religion and his affinity for all things Muslim from the Koran to ISIS. Turnabout is fair play. The best part is that we liberals don’t have to do anything except shovel popcorn in our mouths and put our feet up on the coffee table.

I wholeheartedly encourage  and support Trump in starting a dialogue about Rubio’s eligibility to be President of the United States. Everybody needs to be satisfied that Rubio is not some kind of communist robot built by the Castros to infiltrate the US government at it’s highest levels. There are so many questions that need to be answered about his early childhood. Why did his parents come to the US? Rubio says they were escaping from the communists. Is that true? How do we know if they are in fact that, which they claim to be escaping from? Has anyone seen Rubio’s college transcripts? Did he even go to college? Did his parents go to college at the Universidad de La Habana? Do they speak English? Do they really (I mean really) have American values and how can we be sure? So, many valid questions need to be asked and answered.
